Planning your move
Remember, regarding house purchases,  if you are moving on the day of completion please be aware that it is nearly always lunch time and later when money transfers are completed and keys released so be aware that your mover will not be able to unload into your new property until after then,(unless you have a personal agreement with the vendor) ie. don't book your remover at 08.00am. if it is a small local move as you could incur considerable waiting time costs! Also don't book a multi-trip move if you are aware that the person moving into your house has arranged for his movers to be ready and waiting to unload as soon as keys are released.

System furniture can be difficult! In theory you are supposed to be able to dismantle and re-assemble most system furniture. In practice, it never goes together again so well and can't be covered by insurance. You can move it complete but joints may loosen.

A map showing your new address and a contact telephone number is always helpful. Book your removal as soon as you can confirm dates and timesbut remember if you could be waiting on keys bear in mind that you could incur waiting time if you book your removal too early!
Packing Tips...
Keep the following supplies handy for packing: Boxes, marking pen, bubble wrap, newspaper and tissue Tape and scissors, Tape measure .
Use strong boxes and containers that can be secured tightly. Purchase special boxes for dishes, wardrobe and other special items. If you are getting your boxes from the local shop Banana boxes are usually the strongest and best for heavy items. Pack audio-video equipment in their original boxes.
Avoid loading more than 50 pounds into one box.
Label each box and indicate the following: (a) Which room it should go in (b) Whether it is fragile (c) If it should be loaded last so it will be unloaded first.
Cushion contents with packing material such as bubble wrap, newspaper or tissue. Save room by using towels and blankets to wrap fragile items. Pack books tightly on end in small boxes.
Carry all valuables with you.
Just before moving day...
Leave drawers as they are but tape them up, wardrobe/cabinet doors also. Avoid over-filling chests, sideboards or drawers.
Work out where you want your possessions in the new home - drawing a plan is helpful. Make sure someone is at the new house to show where things go.
Flats You will need priority for the lift! If the lift is small (or non-existent) warn us in advance - do not leave it until the van arrives.
Unloading ...You've seen the new house, we haven't. Warn us about unexpected hazards such as poor access, small doorways, spiral staircases or trees close by , steps, large gardens or greens in front of house.
Spare key... It happens all the time - the van is at the new house before the owner. Waiting time will cost more so, if possible, give the foreman a key.

Try to have children and pets looked after by relatives or neighbours - you will have enough to do without worrying about what they're up to.
Before you leave the house, check the rooms to make sure nothing has been left behind.
